Professor Vu Ha Van, Director of Science at VinBigdata, said that Vietnam has the opportunity to open a new era, bringing generative AI to many fields, at AI4VN 2024.

Second wave of generative AI

The first wave of generative AI has brought breakthrough tools, changing the approach to simple tasks. ChatGPT helps chatbots converse naturally. Gemini proves that AI can compose poetry and music. Models like Llama support everyday tasks such as composing emails, creating presentations and writing code, blurring the line between humans and machines.

Experts predict the next wave of AI will focus on enterprise AI applications, using Large Language Models (LLM) and internal data to develop customized solutions. This wave can enhance business decision-making, process big data, analyze trends, and generate detailed reports to support strategy and collaboration.

In the fields of finance, banking or insurance, AI can provide information to investors. In the manufacturing industry, businesses use AI to optimize processes and predict markets. In sales and marketing, AI can analyze customer behavior and make strategic recommendations.

“The first wave paved the way by demonstrating the capabilities of Gen AI in everyday tasks, making life more convenient,” said Professor Vu Ha Van, Director of Science at VinBigdata (under Vingroup) in his speech at the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Festival 2024. “Now, as we prepare to welcome the second wave, we are facing the opportunity to open a new era, where generative AI will become an indispensable tool in complex decision-making in many fields.”

Opportunities for Vietnam

A representative of VinBigdata identified the three pillars of AI development in Vietnam as: people, resources and tools. With a young population and high digital skills, Vietnam is considered to have great potential in the field of AI.

Training domestic AI human resources is focused on with many universities implementing specialized programs. Vietnam also possesses rich data resources thanks to the high smartphone usage rate (84% of the population) and widespread 4G coverage (99.8%), but this data resource has not been fully exploited, remaining in the form of potential, according to VinBigdata.

Along with that, investment from the Government and large technology companies is creating momentum for the strong development of AI in daily life, with “made in Vietnam” AI virtual assistants, pure Vietnamese language models…

Recently, VinBigdata launched the ViVi 2.0 Virtual Assistant integrating generative AI on the VinFast VF 8 Lux Plus car line. This new generation virtual assistant is capable of searching and synthesizing information from the internet to provide more suitable and complete answers for users. “Generative AI technology helps virtual assistants learn by themselves and continuously update new information, becoming smarter over time, providing a more natural interactive experience between people and vehicles,” said a company representative.

In addition to ViVi, VinBigdata has also developed other products such as ViChat, ViVoice or ViGPT. These AI products are being deployed in the Vingroup ecosystem and many businesses. Government agencies such as the Ministry of Information and Communications with the Virtual Assistant supporting public services (MIVI), are testing with the Information Center to provide information related to legal documents, policies, and regulations on administrative procedures in the field. In addition, VinBigdata has launched the virtual assistant Gen AI Bot and is directly integrated into the National Portal on Business Registration under the Ministry of Planning and Investment. The task of this virtual assistant is to support users in answering questions related to business registration information, online public services such as business registration, information services and electronic reports. In addition, Gen AI Bot also provides detailed instructions on business registration records and procedures, information on legal documents and how to handle common problems.

These Virtual Assistants are all developed from the large language model (LLM) built by VinBigdata from the deepest core layer with a data volume of up to 3,500 TB, covering many different fields. The latest technologies applied include: Generative AI, Multiple-intention, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Information Retrieval.

VinBigdata’s generative AI application products are being deployed for businesses in many fields such as ACB Bank, Lado Taxi… to help automate operations and optimize work performance.

“VinBigdata’s goal is to develop AI solutions based on Vietnamese data, bringing value to millions of businesses. Vietnam has the opportunity to shorten the gap with the world in the field of generative AI, by taking advantage of existing advantages, promoting digital transformation and sustainable development”, shared Dr. Nguyen Kim Anh, Product Director of VinBigdata. “In September, VinBigdata will launch a new generation of solutions integrating generative AI called ViFi exclusively for the BFSI industry group. We are committed to accompanying Vietnamese businesses to make great strides in applying this technology, promoting the digital economy and enhancing the position of Vietnamese technology”.

With the push from policies and large investments from technology companies, AI – especially generative AI – is assessed to have great potential in promoting socio-economic development, improving the quality of life and work efficiency in Vietnam.
