Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology announces
Resolution to establish and launch the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence
On August 28, 2024, in Hanoi, the Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology held a ceremony to announce the Resolution to establish and launch the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Minister Phan Tam, and leaders of functional departments under the Ministry. On the Academy’s side, there were Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong – Chairman of the Academy Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac – Director of the Academy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong – Head of the AI Faculty and leaders of training faculties, affiliated units and functional departments of the Academy.
In recent years, Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has become one of the core technologies, creating breakthrough changes in all fields from healthcare, education, economics to industry and entertainment. The world is witnessing a 4.0 technology revolution, in which AI plays the role of a “golden key” opening a new door for human development. And in Vietnam, under the direction of the Ministry of Information and Communications, especially Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology has decided to establish the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence under the Academy on the basis of optimizing priority resources for this key training sector.
With the advantage of 27 years in University and Postgraduate education, the establishment of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence will help the Academy become one of the first educational institutions in Vietnam to have a faculty specializing in Artificial Intelligence, providing high-quality human resources, meeting the increasing needs of society and the labor market in this field.
According to Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong, Chairman of the Academy Council, the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence was established with the mission of not only being a place to train leading experts in the field of AI, but also a center for research and development of the most advanced technological solutions, meeting the urgent needs of society with the continuously increasing demand for human resources in the AI industry. With the vision of developing the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in the period of 2024-2035, it will become the number 1 unit in training Artificial Intelligence in the country in both research and training quality; and strive to be in the top 400-450 universities in the world in Artificial Intelligence research in the period of 2025-2035. At the same time, promote the activities of the Labs specializing in Artificial Intelligence research towards excellence and quality of scientific publications according to international standards. Expanding cooperation with strong research groups in the world on Artificial Intelligence while continuing to support and cooperate in developing AI products with large technology corporations.
Sharing after the launching ceremony of the AI Faculty under the Academy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong – Head of the PTIT Artificial Intelligence Faculty said that the Academy’s Artificial Intelligence training program is built according to international standards with 2 main areas: Machine Learning and Applied Artificial Intelligence based on advanced training programs from large and prestigious universities in the world such as Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University to equip students with knowledge areas that are both specialized, modern and highly practical to meet the current demand for high-quality AI experts. The program also includes 01 internship semester at leading domestic and foreign AI enterprises. Students studying Artificial Intelligence at the Academy are also guided by experienced visiting lecturers from major universities around the world such as Stanford University, MIT, Deakin, UC David, JAIST, KAIST, etc. and major technology companies such as NVIDIA, Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, VinAI, FPT, Samsung, NAVER, etc.
The establishment of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence is a concrete action to realize the Academy’s orientation and commitment in developing AI human resources. The Faculty will play a leading role in directly training AI, as well as supporting AI training for other faculties in the Academy.
Within the framework of the Ceremony, PTIT signed and awarded Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation with FPT Smart Cloud Company and Ericssons Company on research, training and development of human resources in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Accordingly, FPT will cooperate with PTIT to develop an Artificial Intelligence training program, support computing infrastructure for research and training on Artificial Intelligence at PTIT. Ericsson will provide the Ericsson Educate Digital Learning System and internship, research and employment opportunities related to artificial intelligence applications.
