Assoc.Prof. PhD. Pham Van Cuong

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and a Research Scientist at VinAI Research. He is also the Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Head of the PTIT.AI Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory. He was a Research Specialist under the Marie Curie program of Philips Research at the Eindhoven High-Tech Park, the Netherlands; and a Research Associate at Open Lab, Newcastle University, UK; Research Assistant at the Jornada Laboratory, US Department of Agriculture. He has published about 80 scientific articles, many of which were published at top-tier conferences and journals on Artificial Intelligence such as CVPR, NeurIPS, ECCV, AAAI, UAI, etc.; and he also owns dozens of patents registered in the United States.

Summary of Educational and Professional Background  

Dr. Pham Van Cuong earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Newcastle University, UK, with a dissertation titled “Human Activity Recognition for Pervasive Interaction,” under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Olivier (Newcastle, Monash) and Prof. Thomas Ploetz (George Institute of Technology). Dr. Cuong is also an AI Research Scientist at VinAI Research (a top 20 global company in deep AI research and a partner of PTIT). He has previously served as a Marie Curie Research Fellow at Philips Research and has guided many generations of students at PTIT and several major universities such as UC Dublin, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and NUS. Dr. Cuong has published around 80 research papers, with many appearing in top-tier AI conferences and journals like CVPR, NeurIPS, ECCV, AAAI, UAI, and holds numerous patents being registered in the US. 2 July 2024. Our paper ” SwiftBrush v2: Make Your One Step Diffusion Better Than Its Teacher” has been accepted to ECCV 2024, Milan, Italy. 

26 April 2024. Our paper “Active Learning Framework for Incomplete Networks” by Khong Tung, Cong Tran, and Cuong Pham has been accepted  to the 40th Conference on Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence (UAI) 2024,  Barcelona, Spain.  

27 Feb. 2024.  We have 3 papers:  “Blur2Blur: Blur Conversion for Unsupervised Image Deblurring on Unknown Domains“; “EFHQ: Multi-purpose ExtremePose-Face-HQ dataset“; and “Open3dis: Open-vocabulary 3d instance segmentation with 2d mask guidance” got accepted to CVPR 2024, Seattle, USA.

9 Dec. 2023, our paper “Count What You Want: Exemplar Identification and Few-shot Counting of Human Actions in the Wild ” has been accepted to AAAI– 2024
